Absolutely agree with the original post. This was my first organized road half-marathon fully barefoot. And, it is still my favorite. I was one of at least three barefoot runners at the half in 2015. I had to walk the one, short unpaved section. Otherwise this may have been the most BF friendly surface I have run on to date. The Amish children chirping "water, water, water" and "gatorade, gatorade, gatorade" is something to behold, as are the other forms of support the Amish and other spectators provide all along the course. Balloon launches Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And, oh - the food. So much good food. The Friday night pasta dinner prepared by Amish folks and smores by the campfire later that evening along with a special guest speaker from the running community. The massive BBQ after the half marathon. All included.

One of the coolest 1/2 Marathons out there.
Featured in Runner's World, this unique race has grabbed Worldwide attention.
Local 1/2 to Author of Born to Run and Natural born Heroes, Christopher McDougall.
Run with our local Amish runners (and man, are they FAST!) on country roads in the 'Valley of no wires"!
The Roads are barefoot friendly, not chip & seal. There is one hill that is gravel that you might want to walk anyway!
Amish children and families provide water at the many aid stations along the way.
This is a great race altogether.
2016 is SOLD OUT. Volunteer for packet pick-up....we can always use a hand at Bird-in-Hand! The Expo is awesome as well.... Bonfires, hot-air balloons and great views of Lancaster County PA. 5K race is held the day before the Half as well on a section of the 1/2 course.
